The Queen of Silver Screen: Inspiring Biography of -Scarlett Johansson-

BIOGRAPHY:

Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson has presented film lovers with dozens of wonderful projects. The performer’s acting work was highly appreciated by viewers and critics. Now the artist’s filmography includes films of different genres – from psychological dramas to blockbusters. Johansson also made her mark as a model and singer.

Childhood and youth:

The celebrity was born in New York in November 1984 in the family of Danish architect Carsten Johansson and housewife Melanie Sloan. Johansson’s paternal grandfather is the famous Danish writer, director and screenwriter Einer. And her mother’s family has Jewish, Polish and Belarusian roots, so it’s difficult to say exactly about Scarlett’s nationality.

The heiress was named after the heroine of Gone with the Wind, Scarlett O’Hara, beloved by her parents. When her daughter turned 8 years old, her mother took her to Manhattan, to school at the famous Lee Strasberg Theater University. There, the talented girl was quickly assessed and assigned to a group for gifted children. Six months later she was transferred to the adult section.

Movies:

The director of the first film in Scarlett’s filmography, Rob Reiner, later shared that he was quite surprised by the 9-year-old girl’s serious approach to work. Getting used to her role in the film “North”, she resembled an adult woman who had a considerable burden of experience behind her. After the premiere of Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation, which was released on big screens in 2003, Johansson was awarded the prestigious BAFTA Award and nominated for a number of famous film awards.

It was a turning point in the American’s career. In the same year, Scarlett received a second BAFTA award and a Golden Globe nomination for best dramatic role in the acclaimed film “Girl with a Pearl Earring.”

The year 2005 turned out to be fruitful in the artist’s film career. The American appeared on screen in a duet with Ewan McGregor in Michael Bay’s science-fiction film The Island. The film grossed about $180 million at the global box office; the US box office was much less than planned. The producers of the project blamed Johansson for this, saying that the actress was unable to attract a wide audience with her name.

In addition, the American was unable to negotiate peacefully with Bay during the filming of the bed scene: the artist wanted to work naked, but the creators of the film, fearing the tightening of the ratings, forced the performer to wear underwear. That same year, Scarlett starred in Woody Allen’s film Match Point, which marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between the actress and the director.

Later, the actress’s piggy bank was replenished with new film projects, among which were films of different genres: historical dramas, biopics, comedies. Not all of them were warmly received by the public. For example, in 2016, Scarlett appeared in the science fiction manga by Masamune Shiro “Ghost in the Shell,” where she played the main character, Major Mira Killian.

During the filming of the film, viewers demanded to hire an actress of Asian descent for greater authenticity and similarity to the manga. However, the project was released in its original form, received negative reviews and failed at the box office.

In 2019, Johansson began working on the main role in the melodrama Marriage Story. The premiere took place at the end of August at the Venice Festival. Scarlett’s main partner on the set was Adam Driver.

Previously, the artist found herself at the center of a scandal: Internet users were outraged when they learned that an American woman had been invited to play the role of a transgender man. This forced Scarlett to leave the project, but she later issued a statement that casting restrictions should not be introduced in films:

“As an actress, I should have the right to play whoever I want – a person, a tree, an animal, because that is my job and my responsibility.”

“Black Widow”

In 2010, Johansson made her screen debut as special agent Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) in the blockbuster Iron Man 2. The filmmakers appreciated the performer’s acting potential and offered her to star in the continuation of the story – the film “The Avengers”. The actress admitted in an interview that she had no experience of participating in something so large-scale, requiring months of physical preparation and training, in which all the actors in the film took part.

In subsequent years, the performer starred in several parts of the franchise, becoming a permanent part of the Marvel superhero team. A comic promo video has appeared on the Internet with blockbuster actors Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and others performing the song The Marvel Bunch in a tango style.

Music:

In addition to acting, Johansson managed to reveal her musical talent to her fans. The American did not hide her passion for jazz, calling Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and other stars her favorite musicians. In 2008, the artist released her debut album Anywhere I Lay My Head, which included tribute versions of Tom Waits’ compositions. The public liked this work, and a year later Scarlett pleased fans with the new disc Break Up, which she recorded with Pete Yorn. With him, in 2018, the performer released the mini-album Apart.

In addition to her vocal activities, the American starred in the videos of other vocalists over the years. So, in 2007, Johansson appeared in Justin Timberlake’s video for the song What Goes Around… Comes Around. It was shot as a short film, the video contains dialogues, so they decided to invite real actors. We worked on the video in Los Angeles for 3 days, between Christmas and New Year. The same year, the artist appeared in the video for Bob Dylan’s song When The Deal Goes Down.

Advertising:

The beauty and popularity of the actress made Scarlett in demand among major brands. In 2004, Johansson was chosen as the face of the new Eternity Moment fragrance from Calvin Klein. According to the company, the star has become the embodiment of an independent, energetic, confident modern girl.

A year later, the American added work with L’Oreal to her creative biography. The artist advertised several collections of cosmetics, as well as hair dye. In 2010, the blonde presented the Mango collection for the fall-winter season. During the collaboration process, the actress not only participated in photo shoots for the Spanish brand, but was also involved in the development of the bag design.

Scarlett’s friendship with the Dolce & Gabbana brand began in 2009. At the end of 2014, Johansson and Matthew McConaughey played an ex-couple in a commercial promoting the new fragrance The One. In the story, a man and a woman met by chance after a long separation and suddenly felt attracted to each other.

Personal life:

Johansson’s personal life is always at the forefront of fans’ attention; they began to follow her in Scarlett’s youth, when the actress had just begun to receive her first laurels of fame. In 2001, photos of a 17-year-old beauty with musician Jack Antonoff appeared in the tabloids.

It seems that this was the star’s first novel that journalists found out about. It lasted less than a year. Then there were relationships with Josh Hartnett, Benicio Del Toro and Jared Leto, although the star herself did not confirm the last two relationships.

In mid-2007, the Hollywood actress met her Canadian colleague Ryan Reynolds. In the fall of 2008 they got married. After the celebration, the newlyweds settled in a cozy house in Los Angeles. But the relationship lasted no more than 2 years. Later, the performer was credited with having affairs with Sean Penn and Jeremy Renner.

In 2012, they started talking about the star’s affair with journalist Romain Dauriac. They planned a wedding ceremony for January 2014, but the celebration had to be postponed due to the actress’s pregnancy. In September, their daughter was born, to whom her parents gave the double name Rose Dorothy. And in October of the same year, Dauriac officially became the artist’s husband.

A year before this event, there was news on the Internet that Scarlett had had her breasts reduced. Comparing before and after photos, fans and critics were united in the opinion that the star had her implants removed. When asked by journalists about plastic surgery, the artist replied that she had not made any changes, but refused to explain the reason why her volume increased and decreased.

In September 2017, fans learned about Scarlett and Romain’s divorce. Later it became known that the actress was in a new relationship. Her chosen one was 35-year-old TV presenter and actor Colin Jost. In 2019, at the Comic-Con festival in San Diego, Johansson showed off an engagement ring made by the nephew of the famous designer Hubert de Givenchy, James de Givenchy. According to experts, the jewelry with a light yellow pear-shaped diamond of 11 carats is worth at least $400 thousand.

Jost, in an interview with reporters, stated that before his affair with the screen star, he had not thought about marriage, but Scarlett managed to influence his beliefs. And in the fall of 2020, the tabloids reported that Johansson got married for the third time. The ceremony took place in a close circle of friends and family of the couple in New York. In July 2021, information appeared in the media about an imminent addition to the family. In August, the celebrity’s husband confirmed rumors about his wife’s pregnancy in a stand-up show, and on the 18th, Scarlett gave birth to a son, whom the happy parents named Cosmo.

The Hollywood star has a huge army of fans. Scarlett’s figure (height 164 cm, weight 52 kg), charming smile, appearance – all this arouses the admiration of fans, and photos in swimsuits never cease to excite the imagination of the public. The star does not have a personal account on Instagram, but there are fan pages on the Internet.
